The academy will be held each Wednesday night from 6:30-9:30 p.m. and one Saturday session for 13 weeks.
Layton Police Sgt. Mark Chatlin said the academy's goal is to continue building upon the already strong relationship between the community and the police department.
Those who attend will review training on basic police and legal procedures and on the criminal code. They will also be given an overview of the divisions and services within the department. Graduating members will be recognized at the first city council meeting following the final class.
