WOODS CROSS -- Fred Fernandes is the new head football coach at Woods Cross High. The announcement came last week that Fernandes would leave his current position as running backs coach at Weber State University to take over for the departed Russ Jones at Woods Cross.

Fernandes is familiar with Woods Cross, where he served as offensive coordinator under Jones during the 2005 season before leaving for Weber State this year.

He will be taking over a Woods Cross program that won one game last season, but has state of the art facilities to help their athletes train.

Best known from his time as head coach of Northridge through the 90s and early part of this decade, Fernandes boasts one of the most sparkling resumes in the state. While at the helm at Northridge the Knights won three straight state championships from 2000-2002.
