Gala to feature Peabo Bryson

LAYTON -- Peabo Bryson, famous singer of such Disney songs as "Beauty and the Beast"and "Somewhere Out There," will be the lead entertainment for the Davis County Conference Center's Sept. 9 gala.
"It's a once-in-a-lifetime event that northern Utah has never seen,"says Dave Hilliard, conference center advertising manager. A "black tie" event, the evening of dinner and entertainment will be $100 a plate, with RSVPs taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
"A Walk in the Clouds" is the evening theme, coordinated with the weather-related theme being used for conference center rooms. Hilliard added that table sponsors and major sponsors are being sought.

Storm drain contract OK'd

KAYSVILLE -- The intersection of Main and Mutton Hollow have been getting lots of attention from construction crews lately.
Granite Construction crews are already working on a street repaving project. In the meantime, the city council Tuesday night approved a storm drain project for that area.
A $243,145 contract from Whitaker Construction, Brigham City, was given the go-ahead. "The biggest part is storm drainage running over the channel. There will also be some curb and gutter. It ties in with the street improvement,"said CityManager John Thacker.
Plans are to have both street projects completed by fall.
In other business, the council honored the Exhausted Roosters and Pooped Hens, a social/community group. Its 50th anniversary will be July 20, with that day proclaimed by the mayor and council in honor of the group.
Zions Bank, public finance division, was approved as financial advisers for the city's upcoming Nov. 2 bond election. As envisioned, there will be two separate questions on the ballot, one about the proposed $4 million library, and the other about a swimming pool complex of more than $3 million. "One could pass, the other might not,"Thacker said, noting the two issues are not tied to one vote.

Centerville to seek UTOPIA recovery

CENTERVILLE -- The city will seek a reimbursement from UTOPIA for placing conduit for fiber optic lines under roadways in several new subdivisions.
The action saves costly installation of conduit which would involve tearing up streets or directional boring, something that has cost the city up to $85 per foot for a typical two-inch hole.
"We have spent $1,800 so far," said City Manager Steve Thacker, "and we intend to seek that from UTOPIA."
Acceptable infrastructure that does not cost UTOPIA to construct will be reimbursed to the city.
City leaders Tuesday night declared that pre-placement of conduit is both an "investment" and a "cost-saving measure."
