PEOPLE/PLACES - Refresh 'old' marriage at conference

OGDEN -- It's the month of love and Davis County residents are invited to renew and refresh their marriages--no matter how old--at a free two-part workshop for couples. The first workshop will be held Friday, Feb. 11, 6 p.m. with a light dinner at Club Heights Elementary School, 100 E. 4150 South, South Ogden. The second session will be held Saturday, Feb. 12, 8:30 a.m. to noon. Workshops will focus on building more loving and growth-filled relationships. Workshops include: how to nurture a lasting love relationship, how to promote a sense of being a couple, how to have more peace and less conflict in marriage, and more.

BDAC art competition entries sought

BOUNTIFUL -- Bountiful/Davis Art Center's Annual Statewide Competition will be exhibited from Feb. 18 through April 1.

The competition is open to all professional Utah artists.

Original works of art in the following media will be accepted: watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media, drawings, graphics, photographs, weavings/textiles and sculpture.

Artists may enter up to three original works, completed within the last two years and not previously exhibited at BDAC.

A non-refundable entry fee of $7 per work will be due with submissions. BDAC members' entry fee is $5 per work.

The entry dates for this year's competition are Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11-12, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. No entries will be accepted after Feb. 12.

The Annual Statewide Competition is one of the longest-running juried visual arts exhibitions in Utah and the 2005 show will mark 30 years of highlighting the works of Utah's most creative visual artists.

The juror for this year's competition is Glen Richards, Coordinator for the Utah Arts Council's Traveling Exhibition Program.

Results of the jury action will be mailed to all artists on Monday, Feb. 14. Awards include $400 First Place, $250 Second Place, $150 Third Place and Honorable Mentions.

An Opening Reception honoring this year's artists selected to exhibit in the Annual Competition has been scheduled for Friday, Feb. 18, beginning at 7 p.m. The Awards Ceremony will begin at 8 p.m.
