FARMINGTON --Bonnie Nelson Quinn was sentenced Wednesday to one year in jail for embezzling money from the retirement accounts of fellow Bountiful City employees. She began serving that sentence on Wednesday. Quinn, the former payroll and benefits administrator, admitted to embezzling funds designated for 401(k) or 457 accounts for most of the city's employees. The sentence, levied by 2nd District Judge Jon M. Memmott, was part of a plea agreement that reduced the charges against her from a second-degree felony to a third-degree felony. Quinn could have been sentenced to up to five years in the Utah State Prison on the charges. Instead, Memmott sentenced her to a year in jail, three years' probation and restitution of nearly $112,000.

Memmott took over the sentencing phase of the case after Judge Darwin C. Hansen recused himself from the case in December. He told the attorneys involved that he plays golf with Bountiful City Manager Tom Hardy. Attorneys on both sides agreed to proceed with the sentencing.

FARMINGTON -- A Layton woman has been charged with aggravated assault after she allegedly tried to stab her father.

Katherine Mary Schneider, 32, appeared in 2nd District Court, charged with the third-degree felony. She is also charged with a class B misdemeanor criminal mischief.

Schneider allegedly got into an argument with her father on Saturday. She reportedly went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and tried to stab him. He told police he was able to block the blow, but received a superficial cut to his hand.

Schneider also reportedly put a hole in the wall.
