FARMINGTON -- The trial of a Layton man accused of killing his infant daughter has been delayed because a defense witness will not be available in May. Dominic R. Plescia, 20, is accused of killing his 3-week-old daughter on March 13, 2005. A jury trial was to begin on May 1 in 2nd District Court in Layton. However, last week public defender Mark Arrington said he needed a delay because Dr. Janice Ophoven, a pediatric forensic pathologist from Minnesota, who examined evidence in the case, would not be available until summer. Second District Judge Thomas L. Kay set another hearing for April 20 to set a new date for the trial. Police said that a CT scan of the infant showed a hemorrhage to the back of the baby's brain. Investigators said the cause of the death was blunt trauma. Plescia is free on bond.
