Winners of 13 straight to open up the season, the Braves extended their record to 17-1 before the final two games of the regular season.
But back-to-back losses to Woods Cross and Olympus dropped them from first to third in the region, and they were later eliminated in the first round of the 4A state playoffs.
The good news for both Lady Braves coach Joel Burton and the fans is the fact that most of the players from that squad will be returning for another season.
Among them include the team’s top two leading scorers from last year, Taylor Boroson and Abby Wilson.
Boroson, now a senior, finished the 2010 campaign leading the team in points per game (16) and steals (one).
She also finished second on the team in three-pointers made with 26.
Wilson, who will also be a senior, was second on the team averaging 11 points per game while hitting a team-leading 45 three-pointers during the season.
Junior Kennedy Merrick will also be making another appearance in a Lady Braves uniform, finishing as the team’s fourth-leading scorer and second-best rebounder on the team.
Other familiar names that could hit the floor significantly this season are seniors Brianna Rolf, Miranda O’Dell and Maddison McConkie.
The Braves will also have a number of other sophomores, including Brindee Herrick among others, be a part of a varsity squad that only lost five seniors from last year’s squad.
Three of those five, however, were considered strong players on the Lady Braves’ squad, including Bailey Furmanski, Katerina Skedros and Lori Pack.
Furmanski averaged better than five points per contest for Bountiful while Skedros was one of the team’s top stealing threats.
Pack only averaged just north of two points per game for Bountiful, but her height (at 6-3) gave her an advantage over others when it came to rebounding the basketball.
Diondra Ensign and Haley Petersen are also gone from last season’s team due to graduation.
The Lady Braves will have the opportunity to play more preseason games this year after last year’s realignment saw Olympus, Stansbury and Tooele all leave Region 6.
With the addition of just Cyprus and Clearfield, who the Braves have had success with in the past, Bountiful will have an extra few preseason games to start the season.
The Lady Braves open up the season Tuesday night against Sky View on the road.
