"Together Again"

Alvin Draycott Kinsey, age 89, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather returned home to a large gathering of loving family, including his wife, who had preceded him in death by five years. He departed this life Wednesday, May 19, 2004, of causes incident to age.
Alvin was born October 3, 1914, in Midway, Utah, to James and Margaret Shelton Kinsey, the youngest of four boys. He was raised by his widowed mother, Margaret, who encouraged him in all he did. Alvin always had a sweetness in his manner as a result of her care, and a twinkle in his eye because of his association with his brothers.
He served a mission for the LDS Church in California, before returning home to resume his education at Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, the first in his family to graduate from college. His mission remained a priceless experience to him throughout his life. He married Lola Layton Thornley in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, August 23, 1940. Their large and loving family includes three daughters: Karen (Larry) Call and Conda (Scott) Miller, West Bountiful, Utah; and Colleen (Craig) Moline, Cumming, Georgia; and two boys: Richard (Jane) Kinsey, Paul, Idaho; and Michael (Connie) Kinsey, Layton, Utah.
Alvin was an avid story teller and could strike up a conversation with anyone he met. He grew up on a farm and never quite lost his love of growing things, with many of his farming tools hand-made. He was a Vocational Agriculture Teacher in various areas of northern California, before moving back to Utah with his growing family. He taught math and history for many years in the Davis County schools, always rooting for the underdog or student who struggled. Prior to retiring he became a home teacher, visiting and teaching students who were not able to be in school. For many summers, he served as the Davis County Fire Warden, traveling throughout the county giving fire permits and fighting fires in the foothills. He also served as the Davis County Fair Manager for several years. Sports were always a delight to him as he followed many favorite teams.
After retiring, he and his wife served in the Ogden LDS Temple and in the Houston Texas Mission until health concerns brought them home. The family wishes to thank the many who helped care for Alvin following his wife's death, both at the Apple Tree in Kaysville and Rocky Mountain Care Center in Bountiful.
Alvin is survived by his children, 27 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; grandsons, Andrew K. Call, Mark R. Miller, Mark R. Kinsey, and Michael J. Kinsey; his brothers; and his parents.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 24, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville 9th Ward. Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
