A dozen members of College Republicans recently attended the Lincoln Day Dinner in Salt Lake City, where they talked with current officials and prospective candidates of this year's elections.
"I encourage all those who are interested in making a difference to start getting involved now," said Adam Jones, Kaysville who is the vice-chair of College Republicans at Salt Lake Community College. "The opportunities are there, one doesn't have to look far."
The annual event is held by a county organization that brings area Republicans together to inform them about the development the part has made within county, state and national communities. The three-hour event culminated with a speech by Michael Reagan, syndicated radio talk-show host and the son of former President Ronald Reagan.
n Entries sought for Handcart Days
BOUNTIFUL -- The call is already going out for entries in Bountiful Handcart Days' Arts and Craft exhibit, with the theme, "Go Forward with Faith." The call is going out now to give artists time to prepare for the early start date this year.
An additional two weeks give the show a start date of June 2--July 24. Entries are due by May 21.
Arts entries can be painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, metalwork, woodwork and quilting (original design). Photography is the newest category to be added to the exhibit. Three skill levels will be judged and exhibited: professional, amateur, and youth, comprised of junior high and high school. Professionals are defined as someone who previously exhibited work, taught art classes or makes a living from art work.
Crafts entries can be needlework, quilts (from a pattern), woodwork and china painting. Crafts will be judged on theme, interpretation, creativity/depth, technical proficiency, presentation and composition.
Awards will be given for first, second, third, honorable mention, theme, and people's choice.
Work must be original and not have been previously exhibited at BDAC. It must also have been completed in the last five years and be ready for display upon entry.
The exhibit is the highest attended show at the Bountiful/Davis Art Center and is expected to attract some 300 entries. As a result, only one entry per artist will be accepted. The professional category will be juried.
Entry forms are available at BDAC, 745 S. Main, Bountiful.
