And six former Bountiful High School students are one step closer to having their college bills paid. That's because these students recently received the Bountiful High PTSA Scholarship.
The awarded, pictured left, include Courtney Butterfield, Sydney Heaton, Collin King, Shauni McGarry, Adam Murray and Park Trowbridge.
These students were chosen on the basis of academics, essays and interviews. Interviewers and essay judges were from outside the Bountiful High PTSA community.
The students' highest grade point average was 4.0 and the highest ACT was 32.
The Bountiful PTSA thanks the Bountiful Downtown Merchants and the many individuals throughout the community who donated items for the silent auction that was the source of the funds for these scholarships.
On a related note, the Davis School District recently announced that the graduating class of 2007 received over $17 million in scholarships.
According to the district's Web site, the class of 2007 garnered $5.9 million more in scholarships than students graduating in 2006.
"Our students are just not getting by enough to sneak in on probation," said Davis School District Superintendent Dr. W. Bryan Bowles. "Our students are excelling and are going to top-notch universities, including those universities in our state as well. But they are going to exceptional universities and receiving over $17 million in scholarships to do so."
Some of the schools Davis District students will be attending include Cornell, Princeton, Purdue, Wesley, Carnegie Mellon, Berkeley, the U.S. Naval Academy, Penn State, Arizona State, Creighton, Johnson & Wales, Ohio State, West Point Academy, the Air Force Academy, Boston University, George Washington University, UCLA, Stanford and Harvard
