BOUNTIFUL — Tanner Gamble was one of the quietest players in the first half of the Viewmont Vikings’ game against the Bountiful Braves Friday night.

After scoring just five points in the first half, the senior finished with 22 points (including eight in overtime) to knock off the Braves 55-50 in overtime.

Gamble was one of several contributing players that forced the game into overtime, scoring the final pair of Vikings’ points before Bountiful’s Dain Murdock converted a 3-point play to tie the game at 40.

The Braves had an opportunity to win the game in the closing seconds, but failed to convert on a pair of shots before the end of regulation.

Gamble became the Vikings’ center of attention in the overtime period. The senior was good on six of Viewmont’s first eight points in overtime, nailing a pair of 3-pointers, to give Viewmont the initial lead.

After Bountiful battled back to pull game even at 50-50, Gamble and teammate McKay Richens boosted the Vikings lead by making five of the team’s final six free throws.

The Braves were forced to climb a steep hill throughout the game, trailing by the end of the first and third quarters before forcing the overtime period.

After falling behind 11-6 at the end of the first quarter, the Braves outscored Viewmont 10-5 to tie the game at 16 apiece after the first half.

Brock Yates, Tommy Lalli and Zach Seljaas were big contributors in the first half, scoring all 16 of the Braves' points in the first 16 minutes. Seljaas’ made 3-pointer in the closing seconds forced the first half tie.

Bountiful had to make another comeback effort after falling behind by four points following the third quarter of play. The Braves 12-point fourth quarter was led by Murdock, who scored five of the team’s points to help the Braves get into the overtime period.

Gamble finished with a game-high 22 points and a pair of rebounds. Richens had nine points and nine rebounds, while Haden Heath scored seven points with four rebounds and five assists to give the Vikings their first win.

Bountiful had a trio of players in double figures, including Yates (15), Seljaas (11) and Murdock (10). Yates also had seven rebounds in the loss, the Braves first of the year.

Viewmont’s next opponent will be against the Woods Cross Wildcats Tuesday at Woods Cross at 7 p.m. The Braves will not have a game until next Friday, Dec. 16, when they travel to Judge Memorial.

That game is also scheduled for 7 p.m.
