Daniel Alonso Garcia of Clearfield was in 2nd District Court where he entered the plea to first-degree felony counts of attempted murder and discharge of a firearm; a third-degree felony count of riot; and a class B misdemeanor count of possession of a dangerous weapon.
Garcia was 17 at the time he was allegedly involved in the shooting and turned 18 weeks later.
At that hearing he was appointed a public defender.
Garcia and two others were allegedly involved in a gang-related shooting at the Heather Estates apartments in Layton on Jan. 6.
The victim, Darrell Morris, 35, was visiting friends and had gone to the parking lot when a car with several people drove up. One of the men got out and shot Morris in the abdomen.
Court documents allege the shooter was Garcia.
Last month, Garcia was certified as an adult and transferred to the Davis County Jail.
Also charged in the case are Robert Gonzales, 18, of Clearfield, and Johny Alexander Cuara, 21, of Layton.
Garcia’s next court date is April 2.
