Peterson, a family practitioner with Bountiful Family Physicians, received the honor from the group made up of physician’s wives in the area. March is Doctor of the Year Month.
Peterson graduated from the University of Utah School of Medicine in 1972.
He has served on a number of local and state boards, including the Davis County Medical Society, and Davis County Mental Health,.
He has chaired the Department of Family Practice at Lakeview Hospital numerous times and has chaired the hospital’s Medical Records Committee.
He has also chaired the Utah State Medical Association Member Health Insurance Committee.
On a personal level, Peterson was a Scout Master for five years, taking his scouts on a camp out every month. He has volunteered in humanitarian efforts in Peru and has served a number of positions within his church.
According to a statement released by the alliance, Peterson’s personal accomplishments “have not been on a board or in a meeting, but in the exam room.”
It goes on to say Peterson’s “brilliance is seen through the care and rapport he has with each individual.”
Peterson will now compete with other Utah physicians for the alliance’s state doctor of the year.
The alliance is described as the volunteer voice of the American Medical Association.
