Harvey Thomas, Jr. passed away on Friday, March 16, 2012 in Bountiful, Utah, age 89.
Junior, as called by family and friends, was born January 16, 1923, the son of Harvey Thomas and Victoria Jane (Williams) Thomas. He went to Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah and completed his education through the military. He married Cora Elina Pforr on April 17, 1954. They lived in Bountiful, Utah and had two children together.
He served in the Utah Army National Guard 145th Field Artillery. Between 1942 - 1945 he fought in World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. After his military service he was a truck driver for Kingsbury Produce in SLC, Utah for 9 years. In 1955, Junior started working for UDOT as a Transport Driver. He retired in 1985 to enjoy a life of fishing, hunting, watching his TV “programs” and drinking coffee, playing solitaire, doing wordsearch puzzles, and playing with his great-grandchildren.
Junior was the last surviving original volunteer of the South Davis Fireman and Ambulance Service. He was the ambulance driver for 25 years.
Harvey Jr. is survived by his daughter, Corlis L. Jordison; son, Harvey Thomas, III; granddaughter, April D. Thomas; and great-grandchildren, Nathan Muir, Caden Thomas and DeLainey Facer. Also survived by his brothers, Dean (Melva) and Thomas R. (Margaret); and sisters, Marlene Cahoon, Cleda (Robert) Freeman, and Victoria (Frank) Hinds; and sister-in-laws, Mary Thomas and Dee Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his wife Cora; son-in-law, Clyde L. Jordison; and brothers, Glenn, Lurlene, DeLorne, and Walter; and sisters, Arthell, Evelyn, Elaine, LuJene and Bonnie.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the Woods Cross 3rd Ward Chapel, 1450 South 350 West, Bountiful. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Thursday morning 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
