EIGHTY PERCENT of Utah’s 2.7 million residents live along the Wasatch Front, where a major earthquake is believed to occur every 350 to 400 years. The last one was 350 years ago, according to Utah’s Department of Emergency Management.
“We have 800 earthquakes a year in Utah,” he said. “Most we don’t feel but when one comes that we can feel, we’re going to make sure we are ready for it.”
Dougherty, public information officer for the Utah Division of Emergency Management, was in Kaysville recently to promote an educational event known as the Great Utah ShakeOut.
“We’re not trying to scare people,” he said, “this is based on science and sophisticated modeling software.”
