BOUNTIFUL — “I was one month old when the Titanic sank. That should tell you how old I am,” said Bountiful resident Lucile Miller Johnsen who celebrated her 100th birthday on March 13.

Johnsen, who grew up in Bear River Valley on a farm with seven other siblings, remembers travelling by horse and buggy, churning butter, and carrying water from the well. She was 15 years old when the family got electricity.

“Life is easier now with all the progress that has been made with electricity, TV. and radio,” she said. But she added that she believes life is harder now in some ways because “people have too many choices, life is too luxuriant.”

After high school Johnsenattended two years of college at what was then Utah State Agricultural College. There she met her husband, Willard S. Johnson. He was a relative of the family she was living with. Ten days later, SHE proposed.
