1922-2012

Viola Wittwer Squires, 90, of Centerville, Utah, passed away at her home of causes incident to age April 23, 2012. Born January 3, 1922, in St. George, Utah to William and Agnes Winona Earl Wittwer, she was raised in Bunkerville, Nevada and also lived in Logandale and Las Vegas among myriad loving cousins and friends. She considered herself a "desert rat" and truly loved her home town. She married her favorite dance partner, L. Boyd Squires after his service in the Navy Air Corps, July 10, 1945, in the St. George LDS temple, and they made their home in Centerville, Utah for 65 years where they raised their family.

Viola loved her family, dancing, healthy living, gardening and ministering to others. She devoted a generous part of her life teaching others about health and nutrition. She was an active member of the LDS church giving service as a temple worker, as a missionary in San Diego, CA; Astoria, OR; and Orlando, FL, and as a youth leader especially in dancing and scouting. She greeted those she loved with a wink and a smile and had a deeply ingrained pioneer work ethic. She will be missed by her loving children Lorin E. (Carolyn) Squires, Jana R. (Layne) Flake, Merlin J. (Virginia) Squires, Phillip L. (Barbara) Squires, Ferren K. (Connie) Squires, Glen W. (Charlotte) Squires, Carolyn (Brent) Blackburn, 37 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren (with nine more for her to kiss and send this year), and brother Marion S. (Audrey) Wittwer. She was preceded in death by her husband Boyd, her brothers Karl, William and Neil Wittwer, and two great-grandsons, Joshua and Chase Squires. A special thanks to her caregivers Tonette Roberts, Melissa Jensen, Susan Skraznas, and Legacy Hospice.

To the Squires' family,

Since I live so far away now, I was unable to be at your mom's viewing. I just wanted to let you know how much I thought of her and all of you. Memories go back to 1961, purchasing goats milk for Mike and then Jennie. Later, they were always excited when I would buy them molasses chews from your little store. Mike still remembers that candy and here he is 51 yrs. old. All through through the years your mother was always so generous in sharing here endless knowledge on health issues. Her help truly contributed to my good health throughout the years. She was a special daughter of God.
