“One day she called me at work and told me to come home and take care of a snake she’d killed and put into the garbage,” husband Gordon Johnson remembered.
“She’d killed a 3-foot rattlesnake she found in the garden, so I went and took care of it and we (later) ate it,” Gordon Johnson said.
“She’s an even-tempered, outdoor woman,” he said.
Lydia Johnson is representing all Davis County mothers who all deserve to be Mother of the Year.
Lydia and Gordon Johnson raised seven children, four boys and three girls, who now range in age from 40-55. There are now 30 grandkids and 12 great-grandkids, with two on the way.
Through the years Lydia Johnson has been a rock for the family. Three of the couple’s children had cancer. One, a daughter, passed away as an adult from the disease, leaving four small children, but through it all Lydia Johnson provided “a lot of strength,” said son Bentley, who is one of the cancer survivors.
