LAYTON—The Davis Darts softball team was in a mixed bag of confusion heading into its final game Thursday afternoon against the Northridge Lady Knights.

Having the possibility of entering the playoffs anywhere from a No. 2 to a No. 3 seed, a win over the Lady Knights was almost necessary if they didn’t want to open the softball playoffs on the road.

The Darts got the message, crushing the Knights 20-0 in three innings while Fremont’s loss bumped the Lady Darts into the No. 2 seed in Region 1 heading into Tuesday’s opening round of the 5A state softball playoffs. Aiding the Lady Darts in the win was Payton Yearke, who hit a grand slam as the rest of the Lady Darts exploded for 13 second inning runs to take a 16-0 lead. Davis scored four more runs in the top of the fourth inning while Cheyenne Norton shut down the Northridge offense inside the circle to pick up the win.

The Lady Darts finished with a 13-7 overall record, going 6-4 in Region 1 play. They will host Alta, the No. 3 seed from Region 3, in the opening round of the 5A state playoffs at Davis High School. The game is scheduled to occur at 4 p.m.
