BOUNTIFUL – It’s an art gallery as ephemeral as the weather.

The 2012 Magic on the Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival, which runs today through May 19 all up and down Bountiful’s Main Street, will feature a variety of professional and amateur artists creating art out of chalk, sidewalk, and their imaginations. Professional artist Ruby Chacon, who is back as the festival’s featured artist, will be stationed in front of the Post Office.

For residents, it can be like a tour through artist studios, a open look at the creative process, and an ever-evolving art show all rolled into one. How much you get out of it, however, depends on knowing when to do, where to look, and what to look for.

Know your schedule

The best time to go to the festival depends on what you’re looking for. Thursday and especially Friday afternoon and early evening are the best time to find artists hard at work and see art in the early stages, with artists arriving after work and school to get their materials and start plotting out their designs.
