FARMINGTON — For the Farmington City Council, it’s not too early to talk fireworks restrictions – especially as fires have raged in Southern Utah and Arizona/New Mexico.

Farmington’s foothills were the scene of what was considered the nation’s worst fire in 2003.

The council approved a map outlining where fireworks will be allowed as well as restricted areas in a recent meeting.

Tyler Talbot of TNT Fireworks presented a map for areas on the city’s east side to the council that was modified and unanimously approved.

The fireworks ordinance, meanwhile, is being amended and will be considered in the June 5 meeting, a city spokesperson said.

During his presentation on fireworks concerns, Fire Chief Guido Smith ironically was called out by dispatch when a small fire erupted on the Lagoon Trail.
