The world is growing and changing all the time, and businesses and organizations have to change with it or they’ll stagnate. Rick Cambra, the Rotary District Governor for the state of Utah, outlined some of the steps Rotary International is taking to keep up with changing demographics and showed how they can be applied to any organization.
“We wanted to get people’s attention,” he said, speaking recently to the Bountiful Rotary Club.
Don’t waste energy on repeating yourself
If you spend too much time on maintaining what you’re already doing, you can’t focus on responding to new challenges. In Rotary, this means implementing a five-year strategic plan and improving the group’s technological infrastructure, so that it won’t have to be constantly updated year after year. It also means choosing officers early, and having them work closely with current officers so that job duties are already familiar and transitions are seamless. It also helps improve organizational focus, allowing the group to continue progressing in the same direction, even though the leaders change.
