According to a recently released fishing report, which is posted on DWR’s website, anglers are catching catfish out of the pond with relative ease. Some have even reported catching catfish that have measured up to 20 inches in length.
“It’s a great spot to fish for (catfish),” said local resident Dan Benard. “You have to know where it is, but this has been a pretty good area for fishing these past few weeks.”
Benard, along with other residents around south Davis County, said that catching the fish is as easy as using shrimp at the end of the fishing line. Most of the residents reporting good catfish fishing, and anglers are happy to see that the restocking plan is working.
In September 2010, DWR biologist Chris Penne and his partner, Eric Stephenson, came to the pond in order to install catfish “nesting cavities” that were meant to promote natural reproduction of the catfish as part of the division’s Community Fisheries program.
The program was designed to reduce the amount of farmed fish coming into Utah from Arkansas. At the time, 10 of the cavities were spread out along the pond in the hopes that natural reproduction would occur.
