Cars That Care, a new foundation starting up in West Bountiful, was created with the goal of providing reasonable and dependable automobiles designed to allow single mothers to get to jobs, doctor’s appointments, and other necessary locations.
The foundation, which will be included in West Bountiful’s Independence Day Parade on July 4, will lease vehicles to mothers and help them learn basic car maintenance.
“We want to be a hand up, not a hand out,” said Earl DeWaal, who did this through his West Bountiful auto shop long before spearheading the foundation. “Their lives are out of control financially, but the one thing that’s always going to make sense is their car.”
In order to help with this, Cars That Care is asking for donations of both functioning and non-functioning vehicles. Functioning vehicles will be added to the program, while non-functioning vehicles will either be repaired with the same goal or sold to bring in money to fix other cars.
