KAYSVILLE — The Utah Botanical Center knows what people want, at least when it comes to raspberries.

At this year’s farmer’s market at the center, organizers will release the results of their study on the most popular raspberry varieties that grow in Utah. The results were collected through a taste-test booth set up at the 2009 and 2010 farmer’s market, which measured the preferences of residents attending the market.

“We’re going to be doing the same thing this year with blackberries,” said USU Extension Agent Shawn Olsen.

As far as raspberries go, Cascade Delight was the clear winner in both years of taste testing. The gold-colored, summer-bearing raspberry doesn’t produce as many raspberries as some other brands, but it has a relatively large fruit size compared to the 16 other summer-bearing raspberries tested.

Tulameen also ranked consistently high, but the low yield led researchers to think it still might not be the best idea for Utah gardeners.
