For the second time in three years, a local from Davis County ended up taking home the championship trophy in this year’s annual AjPHA Youth World Championship Paint Horse Show.
Kelsey Jung of Farmington won the week-long competition after competing in the event held in Fort Worth, Texas during the last week of June. Jung took home the title in the Youth Horsemanship 14-18 classification. She showed her horse A Painted Sensation. In her class, riders are judged on their horse’s rail work. The riders must show their ability to have their horse perform a pattern of maneuvers while the rider maintains a correct position on the saddle.
This year’s competition had more than 300 horses and 1,350 entries with payouts of more than $100,000. The APHA also celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, remembering more than 1,000,000 registered horses in 59 countries worldwide.
