However, for Kaysville local Chase Robertson, the journey to earning his Eagle Scout rank includes holding an entire golf tournament that will honor his late great-grandfather, who passed away from Parkinson’s Disease, while also raising money for fighting the disease itself.
“I thought he was kind of crazy,” said Debra Robertson, the teen’s mother. “I got a knot in my stomach about the whole thing and trying to figure out how he was going to put all of this together by himself.”
Parkinson’s Disease is a degenerative disorder that occurs mostly in people age 50 and older. Chase Robertson’s great-grandfather, Bob Bowen, went through the disease before passing away last August. Bowen served as the assistant principal for many years at Viewmont High School, then worked at Bountiful Ridge Golf Course in the latter years of his life.
Because of the pair’s fondness for golf, Bob and Chase played a round of golf at Bountiful Ridge every Monday afternoon that led Chase to the idea of holding the tournament at the local golf course.
