BOUNTIFUL — It’s not often that the European debt crisis and aspects of anatomy are discussed in the same class.

But that’s the case in a new Friday morning class being offered by the Bountiful Community’s That Care program at South Davis Junior High School.

In partnership with Davis School District, about 25 students in grades 4-9 are in class for three hours. They’re not only learning about varied topics but also are drawn from various cities, said Catherine Holbrook, BCTC coordinator.

The free class is a remediation and refresher-type program covering writing and vocabulary, math, science and photography.

“We promoted it within the schools before school let out,” Holbrook said. Students are attending not only from Bountiful, but also Centerville, North Salt Lake and Woods Cross.

Volunteer instructors include Darius Li, a recent graduate from Harvard in applied math and government, who organized the curriculum with Holbrook. Darius’s sister Iris Li, who is studying biology and chemistry at the University of Utah, and Marie Buchanan will also participate.
