BOUNTIFUL – The beauty comes from the experience you take home with you.

At Summerfest’s Street Dance/StreetFeast, no one cares about elegant costumes, fancy tables or precise dance steps. The food is there to be enjoyed, the dancing focuses on audience participation, and the biggest goal is for everyone to have fun.

Dancers and musicians from Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, France, Indonesia, India, Siberia, and Sierra Leone attend the event in street clothes, though some will still be sporting dance shoes. Using the street as a stage, they’ll perform boisterous group numbers accompanied by either musicians or pre-recorded music. Organizers are comfortable with the audience sitting anywhere, but anyone who would like chairs should bring their own.

After the group dance, the performers begin simpler dances, often in circles. Often, they ask audience members to join in. It’s best to jump up as soon as they ask, since spots fill up quickly, but if you miss dancing with one group you can simply join in with the next one.

The dancers will walk residents through the steps before the music starts, but no one will care whether you’re doing it exactly right. Just keep up with the person next to you, enjoy the music, and laugh along with everyone else.

Once dancing helps you work up an appetite, take advantage of StreetFeast. Restaurants from all across south Davis will have booths at the event, offering up samples of their wares to hungry audience members. Tickets are available at the event.

It’s the perfect chance to try a restaurant you’ve never had the opportunity to visit, or mix and match your favorite dishes. At Street Dance/StreerFeast, the only rule is to enjoy yourself.
