BOUNTIFUL – The final creation of an artist lies in the memories of the people who knew her.

Bountiful’s Lamplight Gallery will be celebrating the life and art of recently departed local artist Colleen Parker on Aug. 3 from 6-9 p.m. at the gallery. The event will include an exhibit of Parker’s work, as well as a memorial from the artists who knew and worked with her.

“She was one of the finest women I’ve known,” said Nora Del Murdock, a fellow artist and president of Lamplight. “I’ll miss her.”

Parker worked in a variety of mediums during the course of her career, though in recent years her focus had been on experimental art. She would alter monotypes with pen or ink, or cut them apart for collages. Monotoypes are a form of printmaking done on a smooth, non-absorbent surface.

The artist memorial is a large portrait of Parker created by the other artists at Lamplight. A photo of Parker was divided into several smaller sections, then photocopied and handed out to the artists.

The artists then painted, drew, sculpted or used photo elements to re-create the section of portrait in their own style.. At the event, the different sections will be re-assembled into one large composite portrait.

“It’s a little offbeat,” said Louise Shaw, a writer at the Clipper who has displayed her photographs at the gallery for the last several years. “But it’s exactly the kind of thing Colleen would have loved.”
