CLINTON — The name of the Cornerstone Bible Church in Clinton is significant because the church is built on the cornerstone of Jesus Christ, its pastor said.

The nondenominational Cornerstone Bible Church held its first service on March 11, 2012 in a shopping center at 1448 N. 200 West, Suite 9, in Clinton.

Weekly worship services are held Sunday mornings at 10 a.m.

The church is also planning a special Kid’s Bible Day Camp, Aug. 6, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Clinton City Park.

The name cornerstone was taken from passages in the New Testament books of I Peter and Ephesians, written by the apostles Peter and Paul, said the Rev. Justin Gort, pastor of the church.

“(In Ephesians), Paul says we can’t build (the church) on any other foundation,” Gort said.

The church exists, “to reach the lost with the Gospel of Christ, to aid in the maturity and development of the followers of Jesus Christ and to train leaders who will guilde the church as they follow Christ Jesus,” according to the church’s website.

Gort and his wife Heather arrived in Utah just about a year ago, and began holding Bible studies as they settled in. The first six-week series was held in October. Another began in February.

The Gorts now serve the church with two other pastors, the Rev. Frank Curtis and the Rev. Neil Armstrong. All three are missionaries with Biblical Ministries Worldwide.
