The Huntsman Games is considered one of the largest competitions for athletes ages 50 and older, with 27 different sports being played ranging from archery to coed sand volleyball.
The Games started back in 1987 as the World Senior Games. The event was founded by Daisy and John Morgan, with the ultimate goal of having Olympic-style events available for those 55 and older. Within two years, Jon M. Huntsman became the principal sponsor of the games after recognizing the amount of success the games have had through the years.
This year’s events will include concerts, dances and awards ceremonies for each sport. The Games has also kept track of records, similar to the Olympics, in order to show the high level of competition required in order to play in the events.
The Huntsman World Senior Games begin Monday, Oct. 8 in Saint George with 13 events opening up the competition. The games will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 20.
