WOODS CROSS — Sean Barton is one of the top players in the 4A class on offense and defense. With offers from at least three other PAC-12 schools, as well as BYU, Barton made the decision Sunday to verbally commit to the Stanford Cardinal team for the next four years of his football career.

Athletes making verbal commitments are not allowed to sign their letters of intent until the spring.

“With support from my family, I have spent the last few months considering my own priorities and the options for my future,” said Barton in an email to the Clipper. “I very much appreciate my family, my friends, and a many others who have encouraged and supported me.”

Barton is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and will attend Stanford after serving a two-year LDS mission.

“A special thanks to my trainer, Matt Neve, and my friend and neighbor, Lance Hunsaker, both of whom have encouraged and helped me in many ways in the past couple of years,” said Barton. “I’m excited about and look forward to a great season at Woods Cross with my teammates and coaches.”

Barton and the rest of the Wildcats kick off the football season on Friday, Aug. 17 at Viewmont High School.
