Inspiration can come from anywhere.
For Davis County native Charity Shumway, an assignment for Glamour magazine turned into her recently released debut novel, “Ten Girls to Watch.” The author will be coming to the Centerville Branch of the Davis County Library on Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. to talk about her book and the effect she hopes it has on readers.
“It’s a fun read, but I also want people to see there’s something deeper,” she said. “I hope they take heart in the fact that not everyone has an easy start, and that happiness and success comes in a lot of different forms.”
Shumway grew up in Centerville and attended Viewmont High. She got the idea for the book when she was assigned to track down the past winners of Glamour Magazine’s Top 10 College Women contest. After meeting the winners and seeing the lives they had led, she saw the potential for more than just an article.
“I spent nine months with all these amazing women, and I really wanted to do more with their stories,” she said.
