CENTERVILLE — Registration for the Mayor’s Cup soccer tournament ends today, Aug. 15, at midnight.
The tournament will start Thursday, Aug. 29 and run through Labor Day.
The Mayor’s Cup soccer tournament has been an annual event for 28 years. This year’s tournament will be played at five different locations in South Davis.
Locations include Centerville Park, Centerville Junior High, Bountiful Junior High, Bountiful Elementary and Mills Park. Centerville Park will serve as headquarters for the tournament.
The Mayor’s Cup is open to competitive teams running from under-8 through under-18 clubs.
The semi-finals and final games for each division are set for Monday, Sept. 3. Mayors from Woods Cross, Centerville and North Salt Lake will be in attendance as part of the awards ceremonies.
Food and bouncy houses will be available at the headquarters, and Scoreboard Sports will customize T-shirts and sell sports gear.
The most fun event, Goalie Wars, will be held Saturday night, Sept. 1, said Forza Futbol Club representative Jessica Franich. The Goalie Wars will consist of two goalies from the same age group battling for two minutes under limited rules.
“This is huge for us,” she said. “It’s the first time that we’ve done anything like this and it should be a very exciting event.”
In order to get the most participants involved with Goalie Wars, said Franich, the event will be held from 5-8 p.m., and no other games will be played at that time.
Another activity is also making its first appearance in the tournament. The Speed Kick competition is also for the players to see who has the fastest kick in the competition. Participants will pay $1 for every two kicks, and all the proceeds will benefit local resident Brooklyn Hicks, who is battling Leukemia.
Prizes will be awarded for the fastest kick per age group and the fastest overall kick in the competition.
