BOUNTIFUL — The secret to 94-year-old Cleon Tucker’s health may be partly about eating a lot of fruits and vegetables and partly about keeping a positive attitude.
It could also be genetics Р most of his 9 siblings lived into their late 80s.
Chances are good, though, that most of Tucker’s vitality comes from the basketball court at the Bountiful Tabernacle on Main Street.
For 44 years, the Bountiful resident has visited the gym three mornings a week to shoot hoops with his children, grandchildren and friends.
Now, Tucker is looking for more players. But don’t come expecting an easy win С the man jumps easily, can lift both knees above his hips in rapid succession, all while swinging his arms high above his head, and he has won 42 medals at the Utah Senior Games.
Tucker is a Purple Heart recipient for his service in World War II and a Senior Games Hall of Fame inductee.
“If they do it, they’ll be able to be better than they are,” Tucker said of anyone who is considering joining him for the 6 a.m. basketball sessions. “A little action is good. A lot is even better.”
