BOUNTIFUL С The Viewmont Vikings hockey team won its second consecutive summer hockey league title last Friday, claiming a 3-2 victory over Judge Memorial High School in the championship game.
The win capped off an undefeated season for the Vikings, who finished with a 10-0-3 record. The championship game’s final score was a familiar one for Viewmont, which won the first of the back-to-back titles last season with a 3-2 win over East High School.
“Judge (Memorial) was a very tough team,” said Vikings coach Brian Acord. “But we played great down the stretch and had a fantastic game from all our players.”
The Bulldogs were the first to score in the game and did so early on to take the 1-0 lead. That lead didn’t last long, however, as the Vikings claimed the lead thanks to goals by Ben Davis and P.J. Tanner.
Tanner scored the first goal for Viewmont to tie the contest at 1-1. From there, Davis took over offensive scoring by putting in two more goals and giving the Vikings the 3-2 lead.
That lead was enough to withstand an onslaught of shots from Judge, which had several opportunities to tie the game but were shut down by senior goalie Trey Johnson.
