BOUNTIFUL — Davis County businesses interested in getting $500,000 to grow their companies, hire new employees and help lift local economies have less than a week to sign up for the Grow America Springboard Competition.

The contest has a Thursday, Aug. 30 deadline at 6 p.m. The winning business in Utah will get to present at an Entrepreneurs Expo and Final Pitch show. If they win that, they will get the prize money in early 2013.

This round of the competition is for the third quarter of 2012. Two previous rounds this year gave $250,000 each to winners, according to a press release.

Grow America, which sponsors the Springboard competition, was created by successful Utah entrepreneur Alan E. Hall. He built a multinational marketing firm, MarketStar, which he sold to Omnicom in 1999, according to the organization’s website.
