LAYTON С Weekend tournaments dominated the first full week of high school volleyball as Davis, Woods Cross, Viewmont and Bountiful each headed for a pair of Friday/Saturday tournaments.
Davis and Woods Cross ended up finishing 1-2 in last weekend’s Northridge Round Table Rumble Tournament. Viewmont performing well at the Bingham Tournament to close out the week.
The Lady Darts, Wildcats and Braves took busses to Northridge High School last weekend to take part in the Round Table Rumble Tournament.
Davis, the defending 5A champions, won the tournament and only dropped one set in nine games. The Wildcats, who shared the region title with Bountiful last year, finished second with a 5-4 record as the Lady Braves finished sixth with a 4-4 record.
Davis’ dominance was seen from the beginning as they beat Bountiful, Fremont, Lehi (twice), Hunter, Northridge, Taylorsville, and Woods Cross (twice) in order to win the tournament in a clean sweep.
The Darts’ only dropped game in the entire tournament came against the Northridge Knights, who won 27-25 in the second game but lost the match after Davis won the third game 15-8.
The Wildcats initially had a rough start to the tournament after losing to Northridge, Davis and Fremont, but bounced back with wins over Taylorsville, Bountiful, Lehi and Hunter in order to face off against Fremont again in the first round of the championship bracket.
After dropping the first game 18-25, Woods Cross bounced back to win 25-21 and 15-10 to advance to the finals against the Darts, where they lost in straight games.
The Lady Braves had the opportunity to finish in the top five after taking down Fremont, Hunter, Taylorsville and Northridge. Losses to Woods Cross, Davis and Lehi had them playing for fifth place against the Knights later on, with the Braves falling in two games.
