BOUNTIFUL – Bountiful’s football team committed five turnovers, three of which turned into Logan touchdowns, as the Braves suffered their first loss of the season 35-14 Friday night.

Of the five turnovers, four were committed by Jordan Hayes, who threw four interceptions with just one touchdown pass. Three of the interceptions turned into touchdowns for Logan, who scored 28 unanswered points after Bountiful took a seven-point lead in the second quarter.

Hayes’ first interception came in the Braves’ first drive following a touchdown pass from Hayes to Tanner Redding, giving Bountiful a 7-0 lead. With Logan’s drive starting at the Braves 29 yard line, the Grizzlies took just five plays to tie the game. The quick-scoring drive was capped off by a Jesse Braddy one-yard touchdown run.

Bountiful responded by going on an 11-play drive that ended with Jakob Hunt scoring from five yards out to give the Braves the lead for the final time. During the drive, Hunt carried the ball six times for 35 yards including the touchdown scamper, making the score 14-7 with 11:56 remaining in the first half.

Hayes initially made up for his first interception by picking off a pass from Luke Falk, giving the Braves the ball at their own 10-yard line. Seven plays later Hayes threw his second interception of the game, leading to Logan tying the game before the first half ended.

Logan’s game-tying score saw Falk find Braddy for a four-yard touchdown pass with 1:04 remaining in the first half. The drive took six plays and covered 63 yards and the first half ended with the score tied at 14.

The half did not end without a controversial call, however. Midway through the second quarter, the Braves had a potential touchdown taken off the board on what was ruled an illegal forward pass penalty. On the play, Hayes threw what looked like a lateral to Redding, who found a wide open receiver for a long touchdown play. Officials ruled, however, that Hayes’ pass was thrown forward to Redding and the score was taken away. Had the touchdown stood, the 14-14 halftime score had the potential to be a 21-14 Bountiful lead.

The Grizzlies opened the second half with a touchdown drive that was capped off by a 27-yard pass play from Falk to Braddy that gave Logan the lead for good.

The Braves first two possessions in the second half both ended in turnovers. The first was a fumble that was recovered by Logan, the second on Ballam’s second interception of Hayes in the game. Following Ballam’s interception, Logan went on a 12-play, 53-yard drive that ended with Braddy scoring on a one-yard touchdown run. The touchdown was Braddy’s third of the game, making the score 28-14 for Logan.

The Grizzlies final touchdown occurred late in the fourth quarter when Falk found Braddy for a 21-yard touchdown pass.

GAME NOTES: For Bountiful, Hayes was 10-of-20 passing for 93 yards and a touchdown with four interceptions. Hunt carried the ball 16 times for 87 yards and a touchdown and Redding caught two passes for 39 yards and a touchdown. Cameron Pitt, Junior Hamilton and Rylee Gautavai each recorded a sack on defense.

For Logan, Falk finished with three passing touchdowns while Braddy had four total touchdowns (two rushing, two receiving) in the game.

Bountiful will face off against rival Viewmont next Friday night at Viewmont High School.
