FARMINGTON — A Bountiful man will be sentenced on Oct. 10 after pleading guilty to shooting another man in Layton in June.
Jackson John Tanner, 22, pleaded guilty to a third-degree aggravated assault charge in 2nd District Court last week. In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to drop two other felonies and a misdemeanor charge in connection with the incident. A probable cause statement filed in July said Tanner and the victim, “packaged and smoked marijuana together.”
Tanner then became upset when the victim refused to spend the night at his home.
When he left his friend’s Layton home, Tanner fired several rounds. One bullet hit the victim in the hip. The victim underwent surgery for the wound.
