HILL AFB — They may not be able to retire, but the winnings for a group of co-workers at Hill Air Force Base should make life a bit easier.
The “Dreams Recalculated” team of nine co-workers from the 75th Medical Group at Hill lived up to that name when they claimed a $1 million Powerball prize from a ticket purchased in Malad, Idaho, for the Saturday night draw on Aug. 25.
“On Monday morning we knew we’d won a big prize when we matched those first five numbers, we just didn’t know how much it was at first,” said Ju Nare Cope of Ogden, who was quoted in a press release from the Idaho State Lottery.
“This ‘miss eye-spy Michelle’ (Allgaier of South Weber) went on the internet and found out we had won one million dollars. That news spread like wildfire. The office was electric!” Cope said.
The South Weber woman used the lottery’s “Pool Party” interactive website dedicated to educating players interested in starting an office pool for information to start the group.
“We’ve only spent $450 on tickets since starting the group around the time of that big Mega Millions jackpot,” she said.
“We did a lot of research, made every one of our participants sign contracts, and then everyone put in $10 once every five weeks,” said Allgaier of the group’s meticulous planning process.
Each member won $111,111 but after taxes, it will be about $75,000.
