BOUNTIFUL — School may have started. but on stage it’s still Endless Summer.
The group, which will be performing a free concert on Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Bountiful City Park, is the closing concert in Murphy’s Guitars’ summer concert series.
“They’re a lot of fun,” said Mike Murphy, a local singer/songewriter who owns Murphy’s Guitars.
The group, which started as a Beach Boys cover band, haa added Beatles and other classic rock staples to its repertoire of Beach Boys hits. Earlier this summer, it performed at the Davis County Fair and as part of the Bountiful City concert series.
“I didn’t know they were also booked for that series when I asked them,” said Murphy. “But even if I had, it wouldn’t have made any difference. They’re great.”
Murphy, who knows several of the band members from his neighborhood, will also be onstage.
“I’ll do a couple of numbers with (Endless Summer),” he said. “I’ll also do some solo stuff.”
Murphy’s Guitars has been sponsoring a concert series in Bountiful City Park for the last few years, mixing local artists with more well-known performers such as Michael McLean.
Though this year’s series is about to wrap up, Murphy is busy making plans for next summer. He’s already considering a jazz night, but there are plenty of other possibilities to choose from.
“I already have a list of people I want to talk to about coming,” said Murphy. “I even have people coming and asking me if they can perform, including a ukulele teacher.”
He laughed. “That’s kind of neat.”
