Bountiful started a small winning streak last week with a 4-1 win over Highland. Woods Cross suffered its first region loss at the hands of Clearfield with a 3-2 score.
Davis’ Region 1 opener against Syracuse turned into a scoring exhibition last Thursday as the Lady Darts scored seven goals in a 7-0 victory. Led by Kennedy Lawes’ hat trick, the Darts scored three goals in the first half and added four more in the second half for the easy victory.
Lawes’ three goals in the game brought her total up to four for the season. Davis had five different players scoring at least one goal in the game. Sarah Beecher picked up her third shutout in six games for Davis, which has won six straight games.
After scoring nine goals against Granger in its Region 2 opener, Viewmont entered Thursday’s match with Taylorsville wanting to extend its Region 2 winning streak.
Backed by four different goal-scorers, the Lady Vikings beat the Warriors 5-1 while extending their winning streak against region teams to 12 games, including some from last season.
Viewmont’s four-goal victory was led by Heidi Lorscheider, who scored two. Ella Johnson, Laura Essig and Tana Fingley each added a goal as well, and Viewmont’s win was guided by a 3-0 first half lead.
Bountiful’s game against Highland was a difficult one in the beginning — the half ended with the score tied at 1-1.
The tight game didn’t last long. The Lady Braves scored three goals in the second half to win 4-1. Jenny Skedros scoring the Braves only goal in the first half, and Bountiful’s Christina Plank, Kennedy Merrick and Miranda Tesch each added a goal in the second half to put away the Rams for good.
The Braves picked up their second straight win after going 0-4-2 in non-region games. After being outscored 14-4 in its first six games, Bountiful outscored its opponents 13-1 in the last two games.
Woods Cross was on the verge of capturing its third straight win and second straight in region play after taking a 2-1 lead behind a pair of second-half goals from Ashlyn Farnes.
Brinley Adams of Clearfield had other ideas, however, scoring the final two goals to give the Lady Falcons their first region win of the season.
