WEST BOUNTIFUL — Preliminary test results for oil in water sampled from Mill Creek show no detectable amounts, after oil sprayed from a storage tank at Holly Refinery last week.

The state Division of Water Quality released their findings which showed no detectable levels of such chemicals as benzene, toluene, xylene and ethylbenzene.

However, more detailed results are pending following a second round of testing.

“We aren’t seeing anything harmful to human health or aquatic life based on the data we have so far,” said Walt Baker, director of Water Quality.

“However, we are awaiting the results of a second round of samples taken after rainstorms the Friday after the incident that may give us a better indication of any harmful components that remain in the water.”

Crews from the Holly Refinery continue cleaning up oil which sprayed from a storage tank, caused by over pressurization, which split the tank’s cover releasing about 200 barrels of crude oil.

The oil covered cars, homes, yards and businesses.

At the time of the accident, Holly spokesman Mike Astin said the oil leaves a heavy oily residue which is slippery and messy.
