BOUNTIFUL – Bountiful’s Jakob Hunt rushed for 214 yards and two touchdowns as the Braves scored early and often in a 41-7 win over the Viewmont Vikings Friday night.

The Braves’ offense, which scored five touchdowns on the night, accounted for 478 yards of total offense, 363 of those coming from the backfield. Hunt’s 200-plus yard effort came on 27 carries, and Bountiful as a team rushed for four total touchdowns on the night.

Both of Hunt’s touchdowns occurred in the first quarter and helped the Braves get out to a 14-0 lead halfway through the first quarter. His first occurred on the Braves’ first drive, a six-yard touchdown run that capped off a 10-play, 80-yard drive that saw Hunt carry the ball six times.

Hunt capped off the Braves’ second drive with a touchdown as well, scoring on a 45-yard touchdown run that took just two plays and was preceded by a big pass play from Jordan Hayes to Tanner Redding to start the drive. With Bountiful on its own 22 to start the drive, Hayes found Redding for a 33-yard completion, taking the ball to the Viewmont 45 yard line. Hunt scored with 6:10 remaining in the first quarter to give the Braves the two-score advantage.

Bountiful continued to score more points in its next three possessions before the end of the first half, capping off its third drive of the night with a touchdown pass from Ryan Curtis to Moses Manu on a halfback pass. Caleb Maynard accounted for the Braves’ scoring on their next two possessions, kicking field goals of 34 and 31 yards to give Bountiful a 27-0 halftime lead.

On defense the Braves were shutting down the Viewmont spread attack from all angles. Of the Vikings’ five first-half drives, three of them ended on three-and-out punts. The other two saw the Vikings turn the ball over on downs and have the half end after one play.

The second half saw some improvement from Viewmont on its drives, however none of them were turning into points. The Vikings’ first drive lasted nine plays before turning the ball over on downs. The second drive ended after Mitch Dalley’s fumble was recovered by the Braves.

After the fumble recovery, Bountiful went on a nine-play, 64 yard drive that ended with a touchdown run from Leka Nepote.

The Vikings’ lone score came in the final quarter on a pass from David Black to Dalley on an eight-yard touchdown connection. The drive lasted 14 plays and went 65 yards before Dalley caught the touchdown with 7:41 remaining in the game.

Bountiful responded with a touchdown of its own when Houston Heimuli scored from 25 yards away on a touchdown run. Heimuli’s scamper was his only carry on the drive. Viewmont’s final possession also ended after three plays, punting on fourth down.

GAME NOTES: Hunt’s 200-yard effort was his first of the season and the first time he rushed for over 200 yards since the Braves’ playoff win over Olympus last season. Nepote rushed for 71 yards on 11 carries with one touchdown and Heimuli finished with 57 yards on five carries and a touchdown. Hayes completed 5-of-8 passes for 105 yards. For Viewmont, Black completed 12-of-24 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown. Dalley had 61 receiving yards on five catches with a touchdown. He also led the defense with nine total tackles and two sacks. Rylee Gautavai and Jeremy Rock each had six tackles for the Braves.
