BOUNTIFUL — The director of Bountiful Light & Power is among three officials honored at a recent conference in Ephraim.

Allen Johnson, a veteran of many years with Bountiful’s power department, was honored for five years of service on the board of the Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems.

Johnson is a veteran of 35 years at Bountiful City, having started as an employee of the street department.

But for all but that first year, he has worked with the power department where his father, Ray Johnson, was employed.

Allen Johnson has become very familiar with the department’s operations, partly because of working in many different capacities over the years.

He started as an apprentice and then journeyman lineman, and a substation technician. Following that, Johnson was promoted to power systems generation superintendent, where he was responsible for scheduling all power the city receives from its many different owned or under-contract sources.

In 2006 Johnson was named power department director.

Among capital projects he has overseen are getting the system restored as quickly as possible after the Dec. 1, 2011 wind storm, which reportedly meant many sleepless nights for the power director and other staff.

Johnson and his wife Carrie have four children, three sons and a daughter, all married.
