BOUNTIFUL — All four south Davis County high schools picked up wins last Thursday as the respective schools continued through region play.
The Lady Darts had the closest match of the four, taking down Fremont 2-1 in double overtime thanks to late goals by Melanie Ostler and Kennedy Lawes. Viewmont’s win over West was the team’s third straight and Bountiful’s win over East helped the Lady Braves win their third straight game as well.
Woods Cross completed the local high school sweep with an 11-0 win over Cyprus, the team’s third win in four games.
The Lady Darts’ close battle with Fremont had Davis behind 1-0 after the first half thanks to a goal by Fremont’s Mariah Elmer. The match nearly ended with Davis’ first shutout loss, but Ostler kicked in the game-tying goal that eventually sent the game into double-overtime. Lawes kicked in the golden goal in the second overtime to keep the Darts undefeated record intact.
Lawes’ game-winner was her fifth of the season, tying for the team lead along with Ostler. Davis still hasn’t lost a game this season, improving to 8-0 after the win.
Viewmont’s 3-1 win over West was the team’s third straight win, and marked the team’s third straight win in Region 2 play this season. The Vikings were never behind from start to finish, scoring a pair of goals in the first half before West’s Siri Vlasic scored a goal in the second half to keep from getting shutout.
Viewmont’s Ella Johnson, Heidi Lorscheider and Madison Mitmura each scored a single goal, marking their third, seventh and first goals of the season respectively.
Bountiful’s 2-0 shutout victory over East saw Charity Cole pick up her second shutout of the season, both in region play. It was also the Lady Braves’ third straight win following a rough preseason schedule that saw the team finish 0-4-2 in six games.
Elena Medeiros ended up scoring both goals for the Braves, each coming in the second half. Morgan Cook and Sophia Skedros picked up an assist each in the win as the Leopards were shutout for the first time this season.
Woods Cross’ 11-0 drubbing over Cyprus came at the heels of a tough overtime loss to Clearfield in its previous game, and saw five different players score at least one goal in the contest while forcing the mercy rule to end the game early.
Eden Jacobsen was the only player to score a single goal that afternoon. Ashlyn Farnes, Faith Rohwer and Kyra Fawcett each scored two goals and Aliyah Miller knocked in four goals in the easy victory for the Wildcats.
All four schools continue through region play Thursday as Davis plays Northridge on the road and Viewmont hosts the Hunter Wolverines.
Bountiful and Woods Cross will face each other for the first time this season and will be played at Bountiful High’s home field.
Each game is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
