NORTH SALT LAKE — Things are finally rising at North Salt Lake’s Eaglewood Village.
Construction is well underway on four residential buildings and a clubhouse, the first structures on the property since its groundbreaking in late 2007. According to city officials, the first two buildings are expected to be complete by early next year.
“They’re trying to be done by February,” said North Salt Lake Community Development Director Ken Leetham. “They (Compass Development) plan to be finished with the other two by next summer. Everything seems to be on schedule.”
The buildings, which will contain 124 units all together, are the result of amendments to the developer’s original agreement with the city. The original agreement said that 50,000 square feet of commercial property had to be built or leased before the residential units went in, but the city waived that requirement in 2010. In exchange, Compass agreed to start work on improvements to Highway
89 that were part of the original agreement. Those improvements, which included the widening of the road and an extra turn lane, were completed in 2011.
“Residential development will help get the commercial started,” said North Salt Lake Mayor Len Arave at the time of the agreement. “And in the end, there’s a fair amount of work they agreed to do that otherwise just wouldn’t get done.”
