BOUNTIFUL — Hidden security cameras are going up in two parks, the cemetery, the landfill and a trailhead to help prevent vandalism, watch road conditions and monitor problems such as drug use and assault.

The Bountiful City Council approved more than $35,000 in funding for the cameras at its meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 25. The expense was not in the annual budget, but will be covered by donations from the community and found in the existing budgets of city departments.

The council voiced concern about the “Big Brother” aspect of placing cameras, but decided doing so was worth it because of the expense of vandalism problems.

In addition to the cemetery, landfill and golf course, cameras will be at 4th North Park, North Canyon Park and Hidden Lake Trailhead.
